The IPM-PIPE is a versatile tool. As reliable and tested forecasting models are available for IPM-PIPE pest systems, they will be made available on the system as long as the developer agrees to the inclusion of their tool. Forecasting can be a very useful component of the IPM-PIPE and is fully expected to become an integral part of the system. However, scouting will remain a component of any IPM program. Even when a forecast of a pest outbreak is prediction by a model, ground truth is needed to confirm the threat. How ground truthing is done may vary depending on the dynamics of the pest system

The PIPE web site was designed specifically with the capability to access past information. Accessing information from previous months or years is very simple; just use the calendar on the left hand side of the main page. To navigate to any date in the past for which PIPE information exists, just use the Prev selection on the top of the calendar until you reach the month and year of interest; after that, select the date of interest. In viewing pest distribution for any previous date, keep in mind that pest movement will be displayed from the beginning of the year (as indicated in the month/year header of the month/date you selected) to the date chosen. The observation maps and specialist commentary are reset at the beginning of every calendar year. The state update map will display the most recent commentary as of the date selected on the calendar. Older commentaries can also be viewed by using the commentary chronology feature in the management toolbox. One can view past positive chronologies, when available, by selecting a date in the past that corresponds to the year of interest. The chronology of positive detections is displayed on a yearly basis and not as of the specific date selected on the calendar. The forecast feature does not contain the functionality, at present, to view past forecasts. The forecast will always pertain to the current date and not the date selected on the calendar.
