Plans for 2007:

USDA Risk Management Agency (RMA) has provided $3.5 million dollars for the IPM PIPE during 2007, and this is the only source of Federal funding for this project. These funds will be used for the following:

1. A soybean rust management system very similar to that used in 2006. This system will include a network of sentinel plots spread across the southern region and other soy-producing states; overwintering and mobile scouting for sbr on soy and other hosts including kudzu; support for laboratory diagnostics; an information management system utilizing the website www.sbrusa.net; and national and state commentary provided by Extension specialists.

2. A soybean aphid component, to be designed by entomologists working with that pest.

3. A legume pest information component to assess and evaluate pest data (many important species, not only SBR) on soy and other important legume crops. This will include a sentinel plot network distributed in dry beans, pulses and other legume crops in important legume-producing states as well as diagnostic, data management and commentary capability analogous to the SBR system.

4. Continued development of a good management practices documentation tool for use in relation to crop insurance claims and related issues.5. The IPM PIPE Steering Committee (learn more at www.ipmpipe.org/sc/)
